orbis/ workflow/ month-end close assistant
Free reading This is a full open architecture for how to build this workflow with agents. Use it. Run with it. Build it yourself on Orbis SaaS, or have us deploy it for you — either path is fine.
01.the problem前提

What this actually looks like.

observed pattern

Mid-market controllers close the books in 7 to 10 business days. Each step (bank recs, credit-card recs, accruals, variance, the checklist) involves spreadsheets, multiple humans, and waiting. The whole org waits on close before reporting can land. The controller's calendar in close week is a wall.

The work isn't hard. It's high-volume, low-judgment, repetitive. Exactly what shouldn't need a senior person doing it by hand.

02.the architecture構造

How you'd actually build it.

Each step is its own agent-or-pipeline component. Don't try to do this in one giant prompt — the failure modes compound.

  1. Pre-close kickoff (day -3)
Pull every transaction posted since prior close. Flag anomalies (unusual amounts, posting to atypical accounts, accruals likely needed). Pre-stage all reconciliations with auto-matches highlighted.
  2. Reconcile and draft accruals
Auto-match bank and credit-card lines using fuzzy rules trained on prior closes. Draft accrual journal entries for review. Controller approves or modifies; system posts.
  3. Variance commentary
Actual vs budget vs prior period across every account. Auto-write commentary for material variances. Controller edits before package goes to leadership.
  4. Close package + sign-off
Auto-build the binder: trial balance, recs, accrual journals, variance commentary, checklist with sign-offs. Route for controller and CFO approval. Activity trail complete.
03.the stack構成

What it runs on.

No vendor lock-in. Every piece is replaceable. The orchestration outlasts the model — when Claude 5 or GPT-6 ships, swap the model, keep the pipeline.

04.the math数字

What this actually returns.

Calibrated to mid-market scale (50–1000 staff, $1M–$200M revenue). Your numbers will vary; the framework gives you the order of magnitude to plan against.

close cycle
−40% to −60%
10 days becomes 4. Org reports faster. Board gets numbers sooner.
controller close hours
−30 hrs/mo
Senior-comp time moved off the spreadsheet into review.
year-end prep
−50% effort
Activity trail is automatic. PBC list shrinks. Finance teams find what they need.
